Perspectives on Diversity in Benicia–A Panel Discussion

PDB’s next membership meeting will take place on March 8th at 7pm. It promises to be yet another interesting and thought provoking program!

This meeting will focus on racial equity, diversity and inclusion in Benicia and will feature a panel discussion with Dr. Maliika Chambers and Kashanna Harmon-Lee. Dr. Maliika Chambers is the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager for the City of Benicia. Kashanna Harmon-Lee is a leader Kashanna Harmon-Lee is a member of Benicia Black Lives Matter's (BBLM) Leadership Team. They will share their perspectives on the state of racial equity in our town. We’ll also learn about upcoming events and how our club can help with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) priorities moving forward.

Also joining us will be Cheryl Sudduth, who is running for election to the US House to represent California's 8th Congressional District. She has declared her candidacy for the primary, which is scheduled for June 7th, 2022. Ms. Sudduth is running against Congressman John Garamendi, who was recently featured at the PDB meeting in February, 2002. Join us and hear what Ms. Sudduth sees as the focus of her candidacy and what she plans to bring to the Congressional District if elected in the primary.

The meeting will follow up the PDB membership vote of February, 2022, in which the vast majority of members approved a motion to find ways to increase diversity and expand the membership. There will be a discussion about opportunities for inclusion and expansion of the membership, including the opportunity for volunteers to be part of the newly-formed Ad Hoc Committee, which will research and present ideas to the PDB Steering Committee about expanding Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the club.

We will also have updates on the housing element and the recent actions of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District against Valero’s violation of air pollution laws.
