PDB Oct. 9 meeting cancelled: WORK PARTY A SUCCESS!

On Tuesday, on October 9, instead of our monthly meeting, the Progressive Democrats of Benicia invited Benicians to come to a work party for our endorsed City Council candidate, Kari Birdseye.

We changed the location from the Library to 1215 West Second Street for this phone/postcard make-a-difference party!

This was an opportunity to put words and support into action. We made phone calls on behalf of our endorsed candidate for Benicia City Council, Kari Birdseye and wrote postcards to Democrats in districts that the Democrats hope to flip. Kari was present for a brief campaign update.

To help with the phone banking everyone was asked to bring a cell phone and a laptop along with necessary chargers. Training was provided. Those without laptops sent postcards to help flip a District.

There was also a brief summary of the propositions on the state ballot with the PDB Steering Committee recommendations and an update on our endorsed and recommended candidates.

Featured topic was Benicia School Board November election.  Candidates’ panel.

Message from Ralph Dennis, Chair
Sept. 4, 2018

Hello all…

This is an especially important meeting. We have invited all five candidates running for the three open Trustee seats on the Benicia Unified School District Governing Board (Benicia School Board). A panel discussion is scheduled, which will include lots of time for questions from members and others present.

At the conclusion of the panel discussion, PDB members will vote for any of the candidates – up to three – that PDB should endorse or otherwise support to be elected to the Benicia School Board.

Also on the program, just prior to the School Board panel, is a candidate for Benicia City Council – Bill Emes, Jr. He filed papers after our meeting last month and wasn’t on our City Council candidates program, so we’ve provided him some time at this meeting to share his thoughts and answer questions from the audience.

DON’T FORGET – you’ve got to be a member to vote for endorsements in the elections. So, if you think you’re ready to join, you can pay at the meeting and vote that night – only $20/year. Our membership is up to 76, and we’ve shown a steady growth over the past 15 months or so of organization. JOIN US!!!!

It should be an informative and helpful meeting, with significant information on upcoming elections, as the election season moves into full gear. Signs are up all over town!

Hope you are able to make it – SEPT. 11TH, 7:00 PM, BENICIA LIBRARY.

AGENDA

The agenda for our August 14 meeting focused on members voting on who the Club should endorse in the Benicia City Council races.

Two Council seats are open for election. All registered Democrats who have announced to run for City Council will be invited to speak before members, after which members will cast votes.

Prior to the endorsements discussion, the agenda should also include comments from two progressive candidates running for local offices – Mark Maselli, Benicia School Board candidate, and Dana Dean, who is running for reelection to the Solano County Board of Education, for Trustee 3 Area (which includes Benicia and eastern Vallejo).
