Touro University women’s forum – March 21

Upcoming event…

Touro University announces women’s forum

On Thursday, March 21, Touro University California (TUC) will host the 2019 Defining a Woman’s Agenda, a dialogue celebrating local women’s voices on a variety of issues facing society today. TUC students will facilitate a discussion on topics related to women’s rights, building community, and equity. Topics will range from health, wage equality, sexism, and more.

It is important for women’s voices to have a platform to inspire the community, network with each other and build a program of action to promote women’s rights. The forum will serve as an opportunity to celebrate the women who are shaping our community and connect TUC students with local leaders to talk about the issues facing women today and brainstorm potential solutions.

All are welcome to gather, learn, collaborate and network. Register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/defining-a-womens-agenda-for-vallejo-tickets-58022771672.

Co-sponsored by Progressive Democrats of Benicia, Carquinez Patriotic Resistance, and Vallejo-Benicia Indivisible for Justice, the program was held at the Benicia Senior Center, 187 East L St., 6:30 to 8:30.

This was a special opportunity to hear from our Congressman and to ask him questions. He was asked to focus on five specific issues in his opening remarks, with follow-up questions from the audience on these issues, and others time permitting. The five issues were:

  • Gun violence prevention
  • the Green New Deal / Global warming
  • Health Care
  • Taxes / Economic Inequality

A PDB member recommended this from California’s Courage Campaign:

Courage Scores grade legislators on how well they stand up for constituents over corporations or special interest groups that seek to exploit Californians, particularly the poor, disadvantaged, or communities of color.
