Vote on Resolution re Sheriff’s Oversight Board

PDB Member Ballot – Resolution in Support of Solano County Sheriff’s Office Oversight Board

During a recent meeting the Solano County Board of Supervisors voted to place on a future agenda a discussion on creating an oversight board for the Sheriff’s Office. That discussion has not yet been scheduled, but it is expected to occur in October. The PDB Steering Committee is asking members to vote yes on a resolution asking the BOS to establish an oversight board for the Sheriff’s Office.  SEE BALLOT BELOW.

Supervisor Monica Brown, who represents Benicia, made the motion, which was actually the second time she voted to set this issue for discussion, and with Brown’s motion this time Supervisor Erin Hannigan provided a second, allowing the discussion to be scheduled. We should thank Supervisors Brown and Hannigan for their support in getting the matter of an oversight board for the Sheriff’s Office placed on an upcoming BOS agenda.

A pattern of behavior has become evident within the Sheriff’s Office during the current year that warrants an independent oversight body being established. A summary of incidents, why an oversight board is needed, and how it could be done, is included here. Our thanks should also go to the Vallejo Sun for reporting on the Sheriff’s Office and bringing some of these matters to the public’s attention, and to Benicia Black Lives Matter which has been pushing the BOS for most of this year to create oversight on the Sheriff’s Office.
